What’s the Rush?
The other day I woke up feeling fidgety. I wasn’t quite sure which task I wanted to tackle first–mopping the floors, ironing a batch of clothes, shopping for groceries, organizing a bookshelf, washing clothes or feeding and watering my plants.
The more I thought, the more anxious I felt. The truth is I didn’t want to do any of these chores. I just wanted to hang out in nature, take a lovely uninterrupted walk, and then sit in the park for a good long time. I might even take a book with me.
So I gave in and did just that. The chores could wait till evening when the sun had set on this beautiful day and I was alone at home.
That night as I reflected on my day I couldn’t stop smiling. I had given myself a full day of what it’s like to be a human being instead of a human doing.
I spent an entire day noticing the gifts of nature, sun, shade, clouds and wind, ground squirrels, lizards, bees, and ants and spiders and trees and flowers.
I spent an entire day enjoying my own company, thinking my own thoughts without judgment, and resting when I felt the need.
I spent an entire day following the Spirit’s leading. And how satisfying it was ‘to let go and let God.’
And what of all those chores that had lined up in my mind that morning? They would keep for another day. A day when I would happily take them on after having refreshed myself with time in nature.
What’s the rush? Absolutely none!
He himself existed before anything else did, and he holds all things together.

Beautiful. I need to do that soon. Loved it.
Thank you, Lupe. Good to hear from you.
oh so good, Karen. It took me down a notch just hearing you describe your self-care! I felt peaceful reading it, especially this line,
“I had given myself a full day of what it’s like to be a human being instead of a human doing.”
So good to hear from you, Heidi. Thanks for sharing.
Love this. I love days of “being.” My favorite time of the day is mornings before I start “doing” (writing): sitting on the porch enjoying the quiet of the garden. And sometimes the being stretches on–throughout the day! I love what Rick Warren says about our lives as far as “production” is concerned: If you have learned to love Jesus and people more, it’s been a good day! Thanks for being such a sweet encourager, Karen!
Rebecca, how good to hear from you. Thanks for sharing the Rick Warren quote.
You “being” you is what encourages me to “do.”
Thanks for “being” today Karen. 😉👍
🌸Smiles, BRC
How sweet, Beth. I appreciate you.
Good for you Karen. Nature and being outdoors enjoying it all is SO healthy and connects us directly to our source. Fills us with gratitude. The mundane chores can wait ……. I find that one thing a day or one appointment a day is what I can do now as I age and recover from my traumatic fall early April which still gives me angst. My faith is stronger and I find myself in prayer or chanting most of the time! Sitting out on my deck is simply divine 🙏🏻.
I love your photos too. All beautiful. Bless you dear friend 🙏🏻🥰❤️
Thank you, Kathleen. Glad you are healing.
Absolutely perfect…how well I can identify. There really is no rush.
Household duties can generally wait.
Time with the Lord is precious.
Being quiet and appreciating His creation is so good for our soul.
Thank you Karen
Thanks, Joan. So glad we are in sync.
Absolutely one of your best! I am not physically able to do the household chores, I used too~smile~ and can remember jumping in our swimming pool and let the “household chores” wait! Now that I cannot I am thankful I do have eyes and a great backyard view of lots of grass, a pond and the large area of trees way to the left which is home to some Deer families who walk by the back of our place on a side walk between our lawn and the pond! What beauty and also a lot of Sandhill Cranes! I am so blessed and YOU are so wise to make these decisions~house keeping can wait! Enjoy the “now”. Love you, Margaret
Thank you, Margaret. I love knowing we are ‘one the same page’ when it comes to slowing down and resting in our dear Lord and his creation.
Thank you for that, so much needed in my troubled heart
How lovely to hear, Connie. Thank you.
