Tricks and Treats and Yummy Eats
“Did you know that a pumpkin can be steamed, roasted, fried, shredded into dishes, or eaten raw? The basic preparation after washing and cutting, is to: Scoop out the innards.
The flesh of big pumpkins is perfect for soups and curries. The flesh of smaller pumpkins, squash and gourds is best suited for pies, breads and cakes – although it’s also delicious in a soup.”
I learned all this from looking up “pumpkin eats” on google. I no longer cook or bake but we do have a community kitchen so I could if I wanted to. But I have to admit it’s nice to live in a place that prepares and serves seasonal foods, so I’m looking forward to pumpkin pie and bread and maybe some pumpkin ice cream!
The word pumpkin is an affectionate reference similar to the apple of one’s eye?
Enjoy your pumpkin holiday. Yum!
I also love all things “pumpkin” but I really think that it’s the cinnamon or allspice in the recipes that are what makes it so tasty and appealing. Pure pumpkin or pumpkin puree doesn’t have much taste on its own.
Happy Fall!!
I agree. Pumpkin with spice all the way.
I love it!! You are always bring joy to the reader!! So many good things to eat this time of the year! And soon…Thanksgiving and Christmas!!!! Yummmmm 🙂
So true. Eats and treats for the season are so special. We were going to have a big holiday bash but then COVID intruded so we are quarantined for the next week or so. Oh well!
Thank you Karen for your writing. It makes me very happy to read your uplifting writing. You are such a dear person and I am thankful for you. Pumpkin pie with whipping cream sounds goo. Love you Karen.
Thank you for your warm and caring words.
Karen, here is a giggle for you. I’m the pie maker in my very large family and one time — ONE TIME ONLY MIND YOU, 40 years or so ago at Thanksgiving I forgot to put the sugar into the pumpkin pies. To this day, EVERY Thanksgiving we bring up the story of the “squash pies”. (It is true, they were no very good!!) Enjoy your Pumpkin desserts!
This is funny. Reminds me of a cake I made as a newlywed without enough water in the mix. I sent it straight to the trash and started over.🤗
