Trees are a-blooming!
After weeks of rain and flooding and high winds in the area where I live, spring is beginning to show its lovely colors. The trees on my street are greeting us with fragrant blossoms and the hope of new life. I’m so excited. It’s my favorite time of year.
This season meant a lot to poet Emily Dickinson too.
A Light Exists in Spring
A Light exists in Spring
Not present on the Year
At any other period —
When March is scarcely here
A Color stands abroad
On Solitary Fields
That Science cannot overtake
But Human Nature feels.
t waits upon the Lawn,
It shows the furthest Tree
Upon the furthest Slope you know
It almost speaks to you.
Then as Horizons step
Or Noons report away
Without the Formula of sound
It passes and we stay —
A quality of loss
Affecting our Content
As Trade had suddenly encroached
Upon a Sacrament.

For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. (Song of Solomon 2:11-12 ESV)

Along with many in California, I’m grateful for both the rain and snow we received and now for the arrival of spring. I’m enjoying the trees that are blooming and the rosy camellias in our front yard.
I’m also grateful for you and your faithfulness to your writing and to your readers. You are a blessing to many.
And truthfully? I miss seeing you!
Jan, how lovely to hear from you. Thank you for your kind words. I have so many wonderful memories of all our times together at MH. I hope you are well and thriving.
I love the spring also and somehow this reminds me how much I love trees which reminds me of a song I sang when a voice major in college.I realize this is not your subject but please forgive me for sharing just a few of the words: A Tree that may in summer wear a nest of Robins in her hair, a tree that looks at God all day and lifts her leafy arms to pray”.When just a very young girl I loved it when the Wild Cherry Tree put on its leaves in the spring and I could climb to the top and sing. Thanks, Karen
What a beautiful memory, Margaret. Thank you for sharing it. Charles would agree with you about the cherry tree blossoms.
Spring has sprung and I’m all undone.
Wish I could quote a poem but I’m not much on poems. There a place here in Central Valley called The Blossom Trail. It is gorgeous. All the fruit trees are in blossom in the Spring. God’s handy work. The fragrance is heavenly. Thank You Karen for your timely blog.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Joan. I love hearing from you.
I love this poem. Thank you Karen.
Recently I went on a road trip – WOW with the snow capped mountains and the hills covered in poppies and other wild flowers, it is truly beautiful. Everything is fresh and washed off for our pleasure.
Lynn, what a lovely experience you had. Thanks so much for sharing it. I love seeing the wild flowers all around just as you did.
