The God of Peace
“…whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” (Phil. 4:8-9 NIV)
I love this passage from Paul’s letter to the Philippians. I sense he wrote it for me too, though I wouldn’t read it for hundreds of years to come.
Today more than ever, these words speak to me in every area of my life. I want to focus on those lovely and pure and right and noble things and be an example of them to my friends and family and colleagues and readers and neighbors and every person I come in contact with.
Remember the lyrics to an old song, “What the world needs now is love, sweet love…”?
Boy, isn’t that the truth?
I woke up today reminding myself to do my part by being ‘here’ now, forgetting yesterday, and trusting God for what is to come. I feel better already.

Lovely. I feel better just reading this too, even some 1900 or so years later, it still rings true. I’m in wonder of how the Bible can speak to us in our time too and still be true. I guess the truth is always the truth, eh?

I walked today in the redwoods and thought of how long they have lived. Then I thought of the words to an old song “ Yesterday , today, forever Jesus is the same “

Karen, this is my favorite verse of scripture and it was the Motto of the college I attended: Lambuth college in Jackson,Tennessee, sponsered by the Methodist Churches of the Memphis conference.I do not remember if I had read it before attending the college but I just felt it was so good and I had it memorized soon and was thrilled one day last week when it was the scipture for the day in one of the devotional’s that I read. Thank you so much for reminding me again just how much the words mean and oh how true!

Amen…respond to the world as God does. If we dwell on the negative or sinful thoughts our thinking degenerates. But if we fill our minds with the holy and acceptale things of God the opposite happens.
