Takin’ it Easy
As I write this blog, it’s Labor Day. Autumn is in the wings and apples are abounding. I miss living near Gizdich Ranch in Watsonville, California, close to where I lived for almost 20 years. The fresh apple pie reminded me of what Mom used to make when I was a girl.
I hope you had a happy holiday celebration. We’re having an outdoor barbecue this afternoon. The chef does a good job of putting these meals together for holidays.
Julie and her boyfriend and her daughter Johannah and family are going hiking. I’d love to tag along but my hiking days are over. Too many hills. But I’ll have fun playing corn hole and noodle ball with my friends.
I’m finding more and more things to be grateful for–so many opportunities to participate in ways I didn’t expect. This week, for example, I’m going to offer a ‘Writing Clinic with Karen’ to see if there is any interest in journaling. People here have had such interesting careers and lives. I’m hoping a few will want to share some of what they’ve experienced. Or they can write a sweet memory from their past or they can simply write for their own pleasure and keep it private. I’ll let you know how it goes over.
The point I wish to make is the importance of sharing your talent and acknowledging that of others. We have a retired opera singer in our midst, two painters I’ve met, a Navy man and several teachers, from Kindergarten to high school math. Imagine the stories they have to share!
“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Phil. 2:4
Hope your writing clinic goes well, Karen! How wonderful that there are so many there with stories to tell. I remember your writing class at Mount Hermon was so encouraging and helpful.
Nancy, thank you for that sweet memory of Mt. Hermon. I loved teaching there and miss it.
