Rest in Peace
We often whisper these three words when we visit loved ones who are ill or at a graveside as we say good-bye. But over the weekend I whispered them to myself. I was feeling especially tired so I decided to take a nap each day. I spread out one of my favorite blankets on the sofa in my living room and then crashed for an hour. When I woke up I felt refreshed and happy. I felt like myself again. I realized I had piled on too many chores, many of which I could have put off for another day. At this stage of my life, nothing is urgent. I can spread out the items on my ‘to-do’ list over an entire week or even a month if I want to.
I turned to my Bible and read a few verses on rest. Isn’t it amazing that whatever topic we want to learn more about, the Bible is the best place to turn to. God’s Word revives us, calms us, advises us. The rest of my day went well. I enjoyed a delicious meal, a walk around the block, a favorite TV show and a soothing shower.
In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for you alone, Lord,
make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8
There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Hebrews 4:9-10
Beautiful! At 94 I find myself forgetting
I need an aftn nap but can’t sleep if I
go to bed so sit in my recliner covered
with a throw & doze off while reading
a good book & wake up a half hour
feeling so much better! I remember Jesus
came apart at times to rest & I must come
apart before I fall apart!
Yes, Delores, I love that you are taking care of yourself. Bless you.
Love your message and these great verses! His word never returns void! Hugs!
Thanks, Glenda. Yes, God’s Word never returns void.
You often inspire me to look up a song. This time it was
“There is rest for the weary”. It is a very old (1899)Southern Hymn that talks about our “eternal rest”. Until then we must take our “time-outs” when we need them. Such great verses to remind us of that.
Nothing like the word of God to speak just what we need. Thanks for sharing this great old hymn.
These restful tips seem so appropriate for this winter season of hibernation Karen. Maybe a good nap would keep me from becoming a grouchy bear. ☺️👍
🌸Smiles, BRC
Thanks, Beth. I can’t imagine you ever being a grouchy old bear!
Uh oh…that’s good.
But, be forewarned…
don’t catch me tired and without a nap.
Lol.
Smiles, BRC
Thank you, Karen. This speaks to my soul today. “My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” HUGS!
Kristi, so good to hear from you. Hugs to you, too, and rest and peace today.
Thank You Karen, I do nap on occasion and always feel refreshed. I push and push and then am forced to stop.
The verses fit so well. Jesus did remove himself from people to regenerate. Why do we think we are any different? Recharging our battery is important and we have the perfect example….”Jesus”.
Thanks, Joan. I love hearing from you. I pray you recharge this week with these wonderful verses.
Thanks, Karen, I take at least a two hour nap each afternoon and sometimes longer! It is wonderful! I guess since I am not able to do any housework, etc, (ha) I can take advantage of being “older” smile~Love you, You are very smart to take a nap~seriously~ it is good for you. Love you. Margaret
Good for you, Margaret, to rest each day. I feel much better when I have plenty of rest, too.
I loved this inspiration today and I also loved the comment and insight from Delores – thank you Karen ♥
Thank you, Carrie. So good of you to add your comment.
