Rainy Day Rest
It’s raining, it’s pouring! We need the rain but it keeps me indoors. Too blustery and cold and shivery to leave home today–all week, actually.
But as I gaze out the window I realize every drop is a blessing so I will enjoy the storm and focus on some things I can attend to while staying inside.
I’ll read today. I have three books waiting on my Kindle.
I’ll enjoy a hot lunch to keep me warm.
I’ll sit by the fire and cuddle in a blanket.
I’ll watch a movie.
I’ll write this blog.
I’ll text my children.
I’ll attend a meditation session on Zoom with good friends.
I’ll play some word games on my iPhone.
I’ll go to bed earlier than usual and make the most of a good sleep.

What do you like to do on a rainy day? Let’s share.
i love to clean out a closet on a rainy day!! also, it’s a great day to bake or cook. 💛
Hi Erin. Thanks for sharing what you do on a rainy day. Cleaning out a closet and/or cooking (but especially cooking–maybe roasting veggies or making soup) sounds perfect.
Oh my I never tire of the rain. Probably because it’s rather scarce in southern California and also in the Central Valley where I now live.
It’s so nice to do inside activities when Gods rain is busy washing everything off. Reading, catching up on desk work and rearranging cupboards.
Putting a pot of homemade soup on.
All rain activities.
I see you like to make soup too. My favorite is carrot, though I haven’t made it for a while. I enjoyed what you said about God washing the outside with rain while we clean up the inside.
Karen,
Rain in California???? C’mon. LOL. I write. I have two nonfictions to write and a fiction WIP on which I am now working. That’s pretty much, all I do anymore. (Of course, I live in Oregon.) Rain is how it stays so green up here. LOL. Enjoy yourself, no matter what you decide to do. God bless.
Jim
Thanks, Jim. Yep, rain in CA is not as common as it Oregon, so when it comes we enjoy and appreciate it. Glad to hear you are focusing on your writing.
I like to just sit and watch the rain and see the wind blowing the palm fronds back and forth and I enjoy reading a good book. A great memory when my close friend Sue and I lived one block from each other in Paducah we would walk to the Bob Noble Park during the summer to go in the swimming pool and it seemed like we would always get caught in a rain when we would be walking home after our swim. One day we saw the rain was on it’s way and it was still early so we should have stayed in the park, under cover, but we got out of the pool and started walking home. We got soaked! That was when we wore dresses and not shorts so our dresses were clinging to the shape of our bodies and every car that passed us were having such a good time laughing at us but we just laughed with them. Our hair was clingin to our scalp so we did look funny! We laughed but when we got to Sue’s house her mother asked us why we did not wait until the rain was over but of course that never entered our minds, we felt we needed to “get home”smile!
Ah the great memories and we also got caught in the rain after being at the skating rink. We didn’t care, we just had fun! Thankful for the memories.
Love to you. Margaret
What a delightful childhood memory. I’m amazing at how many details you are able to recall. Such a sweet time in your life.
Sounds like quite a perfect day Karen! I love to be inside, near a warming fire (or space heater), curled up to read or watch a movie on tv, beside Don, with our Paigey between us. We’re a clan! I also love extra sleep! Thanks for sharing your rainy day loves with us.
You rainy day activities sound so sweet and loving with your two ‘besties.’
I love to hear all your ideas about indoor activities on a rainy day. Me: I’m all “in” with making a big pot of soup or stew. Now that I’ve got an Instant Pot… one or the other comes together quickly and I can savor the left overs, too. In fact, the next day is sometimes even better!
I agree. The day-after soup is always the best. Enjoy your rainy days, though in SD I know they’re a special treat since they don’t occur often enough.
Hmmm?
Great plans! I like your ideas!
I like to make a cup of chai tea, light candles, snuggle under a soft blanket with a color book and color pencils and pretend we’re having a “snow day” in South MS!
Although, a few days ago I didn’t have to pretend!
We actually had a few minutes of flurries! Teehee!
Smiles, BRC
Lovely ideas. I enjoy coloring too and snuggling under my favorite blanket with a fire lit and music to soothe my soul.
I really believe that God sends us days when He wants us to slow down and rest. Rain not only natures the soil, plants and animals but also us. Gives us days to reflect, read and regroup.
What a beautiful message, Lynn. Thanks for offering your viewpoint.
