  1. What a very special item to come across and to know how much left went into it. I enjoy sharing with my mother has left me with my daughter and granddaughter now not waiting until I pass away I want to watch them enjoy!

  2. Hi Karen! My Mother didn’t crochet hats but I do have a treasured afghan that she made me. She passed away two months before Cliff did in 1996 but it still has a place of honor in my bedroom. I use it several times a week and when I snuggle under it, I always take the opportunity to thank the Lord for her life and all the ways she impacted me. I miss her a great deal… but it’s even more comforting to know that one day I will see her in heaven.

  3. Hi Karen,
Thank you for sharing the beautiful treasure of your mother’s hand made red hat. What a special gift of love she gave when she made that just for you. I often times think about how important it is to let people know we love them. Whether it’s my daughters, son-in-laws, grandchildren, and friends. It makes me happy to give my embossed hand made cards away because I know that the recipients will let others know how they are loved and appreciated. It is the little things that make a difference.
I remember when my grandmother (Bubie Mary) made beautiful doll clothes that I kept for many years. She used cobalt blue yard and the dresses were so beautiful. She also made an aphgan that was multicolored and I gave that to my daughter Vanessa. My Bubie Sophie (my mom’s mom) created the most beautiful cobalt blue sweater with silver stands in it. The buttons were covered with yarn too. She also bought me a gorgeous full skirt that had sequins all over it. I have a photo of that when I was celebrating my 9th birthday. My mom and I really enjoyed eating german chocolate cake together. She made delicious sweet and sour meat dishes. It’s fun remembering these things.

  4. This is great! Dad was a minister and the salary was not much but we did have a place to live. Mother was a good seamstress and I do not remember any dress I had that was not made by my Mother, I think all the pictures I had in all family albums I had on dresses Mother made. When I was a senior in High School ( in Paducah) I saw a dress in the window of a department store down town that I loved. Mom went to town, stood outside on the sidewalk, drew the dress, bought the material and made me the dress! It fit perfectly and that was the dress I wore at graduation. I don’t still have the dress (ha) but I do have aprons she made and a quilt she and her family ladies made. cherished by me and my daughter Tanya.
Thank you for reminding me of good memories. Margaret

    • Thanks for sharing all these sweet memories, Margaret. My mom was a seamstress too, and made many of my dresses over the years. I carried on the tradition for my daughters.
