Letting Go
This week I was reminded in my devotional reading that all great spirituality is about letting go, even though over the years we’ve been taught that it’s about more prayer, more meditation, more spiritual conferences, and so on.
Richard Rohr pointed out that the Shakers and the Amish seem to be the only Christians who have chosen simplicity!
As I’m growing older I’m noticing that I have enough of everything I want and need, more than enough. My life is abundant.
I feel ready to ‘let go’ of some of that abundance so I can focus on simple living, a life that turns my mind and heart to God as I let go of what no longer works and embrace the only thing that truly matters–my relationship with God.
Ah, what a relief it is.
1 Timothy 6:6-7
But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.
Amen!!! Yes focusing on the Lord and inviting Him into the areas in my life that were filled with things, accomplishing goals, and a whole myriad of other things. Jesus is the only one who can heal, comfort, and help us to thrive. I appreciate your writing. I too have enough of everything. Now all I need is to seek the Lord with all of my heart and peace comes. Nothing and no one else can take His place.
Thanks, Sandy. I’m with you.
“Let go (of control) and let God” works for me. I agree wholeheartedly with your comments.
Good to hear from you, Marie.
