It’s Raining; It’s Pouring — 13 Comments

  1. When I lived in Paducah my best friend since we were three years old lived one block from me. We went to the movies, skating rink, pool at the park, etc. and about half of the time when we started walking home we got caugt in the rain! We didn’t care but her mother would fuss at us as we always stopped at her house first! One day we had been swimming at the pool at the park and it was a long walk home. When we saw it was going to rain we got out of the pool and walked home, and it was a long walk.We got soaked! She had strait hair and mine was curly so her hair just got more strait and mine just looked fuzzy. Those were the days when we did not wear shorts, just dresses and the wetter we got the more our dresses would cling to our bodies! Kids we knew would pass us in a car and ask if we wanted a ride and then of course drive on just dying laughing, so we laughed too.
YEP, I love a rainy day! Love you too! Margaret

    • What a cute story from your childhood, Margaret. I remember singing the song, “Rain, Rain Go Away” but now I love it because it gives me time to listen and to think and to be peaceful while nature does its thing.

  2. Monday, April 20, 2020 . . .

    . . . “And I love you! . . . ”

Thanks very much for this, Joan; it’s succinct, it’s refreshing . . . and it “Spoke” to me. You don’t hear from me often (in fact, ever!) but I’m a faithful weekly reader of your column, and this poem by Langston Hughes really moved me; thank you for this selection. May you enjoy good health and good fortune for the rest of your days. Stay well.

    Naomi Kobayashi

    • Nice to hear from you, Naomi. By the way, my name is Karen, not Joan. Thanks for being a faithful weekly reader. That means a lot to me.I pray you enjoy good health and good fortune too, especially as we endure the confinement.

  3. Karen, I’m going to start calling them “tuck in” days too, just because you gave me the bright idea to do so! I know just what you mean, dear one…

Carolyn Curtis, whose latest book is “Women and C.S. Lewis: What his life and literature reveal for today’s culture.”

    • Carolyn, how lovely to hear from you, as you too, tuck in, for however long we are required to do so. A good time for thought and prayer and reading.

  4. You didn’t mention being stuck in your home because of the coronavirus. Even though I’ve been furloughed from my job I have plenty to keep me busy. I’m not at all stressed and enjoy taking Marley and Sophie out on their daily walks. God has a plan for us, so I’m at rest.

    • I like your share, Judi. I’m going out everyday during our ‘stay in’ period but keeping my social distance and wearing a mask. Nature gives us such peace and trust if we receive it. I’m happy you are at rest and are trusting God–who is always in control.

  5. I cherish rainy days too Karen! Can you imagine if we didn’t have them?

    Pollen would suffocate us.
    Flowers wouldn’t bud and blossom.
We would never stay in and rest.
We would never finish a book.
We would never appreciate the warm sun and brilliant blue skies as
much as we do after a refreshing rain.

Rain is cozy when I embrace its purpose and the sound it makes on our metal roof.

Thanks for reminding me of these things.

Hope you get to enjoy more “tuck-in” days (by choice) this season.

    Praying for everyone, everywhere…

    Smiles, BRC

  6. Hi Karen, thanks for the “tuck in”
Message. I’m one of those that gets excited when it rains. Nothing like Gods watering can. Every thing is so fresh and smells sooo good. Also a good time to refresh and tuck in.
    Blessings & Hugs
    Joan

    • Thank you for the visual on “God’s Watering Can” Ms. Joan! I can actually see God standing in overalls watering us with His nurturing love!
You know, Genesis 2:8 says God planted a garden!
      Isn’t that neat?

      🌸Smiles, BRC
