Getting Personal with Scripture
There’s a popular cliché that says, “When the going gets tough, the though go shopping.” Ha! Ha! Not really.
I’m inclined to edit this saying: “When the going gets tough, the weak turn to the Bible.”
And as a friend of mine suggested to me years ago, “Personalize the verses so they really sink in.”
Be strong and courageous, KAREN. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deut. 31:6).
God is our refuge and strength, KAREN an ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).
KAREN, when you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze (Isaiah 43:2).
So the next time the going gets tough, shine the mall! Open your bible and get personal with Scripture.
Hi Karen,
I like your revision much better. 🙂 I have personalized Scripture for many years. That’s a great idea. it puts things in the proper perspective. Personalizing Scripture makes it sound as though God is talking straight to us instead of talking to everybody like the Bible (Jesus) does. I love that as well, but I love it when Jesus talks to me. I have used that “Jesus Talking” devotional by (I think her name is) Sarah Young. Anyway, great blog — as per usual. L8R.

Thanks, Jim. I always appreciate your support and your perspective.
Always on target (not the store). You have the right perspective! Thanks again for your insight and encouragement.
Thanks, Etta Mae. You are always in my corner and I appreciate it.
Love the way you “write”. Psalm 46:10: Margaret, be still and know that I am God”. Isaiah 26:3: Margaret if you will just keep your mind on me and trust me, I will give you perfect peace”! And HE does!
Love to you, Margaret
Thank you, Margaret. I’m with you. We know that God will keep us in perfect peace if we trust him. God bless you.
Extremely Comforting. Thanks Karen.
Theses were the exact verses needed for the season I am in today. Humbled by the timing. 😌

Thanks, Beth. What a lovely thing to hear. God knows our needs and always provides. I feel humbled to have offered what you needed without even knowing it.
