Fairy Godmother Monday — 21 Comments

  1. Karen Erin and Shevawn are so blessed to have you as their fairy god mother. I can just picture the look of relief on their faces when everything is in order, clothes folded, and dishes done.. How beautiful.
Yes I have been been helping out my daughters on and off for the past seventeen years. It makes me happy knowing that when I can’t be there in person that I am there for emotional support and prayer if they’d like. I have loved doing art projects with all of my grand children who are now 2, 5, 6, 9, 14 and 18. My eighteen year old grandson said that he remembers very vividly doing art projects with me. Sometimes I’d watch the boys in Pasadena for four or five days at a time while their parents when to Christian conferences. It delights me when I think about the excitement on their faces when they saw an assortment of art projects they could do. Those days are gone, but I’m now doing art projects with the three youngest girls who live near by.
Thank you Karen for writing this article. You have earned your angel wings.
    Love you.

    Sandy

  2. You are the best, Karen. And, the cutest grandma and fairy godmother. While I am not good at the daily tasks in my own house that you describe, ha ha, I have taken on the role of grandma to other people’s grandchildren who live out of state or in Heaven. I have helped an 11-year-old with his art project for school, where he had to paint a horse in motion. He used my art set up and all of my paints and brushes. I was able to fairy godmother him and guide the project, which is proudly displayed in their living room. I am gramma to 5 other children for my sister’s grandchildren—as my sister died and can’t be there in person for them. So honored to take that role and be the gramma/fairy godmother to them all. I like the spoiling them and giving them back part.

    • I love hearing your role in the life of these children and teens, Heidi. I can picture what a blessing it is to pass on your artistic talent to this younger generation. What a gift to your sister.

  3. You are such an incredible blessing to others dear Karen on so many levels and in so many ways. Your daughter and granddaughter are SO fortunate. I am sure they really appreciate all that you do for them. Happy you have such great energy to share. My grandies are all just about grown up and none have settled enough to have children yet!
I look forward to that and hope I too can be so helpful! I did of course help both daughters when needed but not on a regular basis as I was still working then. I look forward to being able to help again when needed.
Loved this sharing. Thank you. 🙏🏻❤️

    • I know you will, Kathleen. You have the ‘helper gene’ for sure. And you display it in so many ways. I’ve been blessed to receive your love and support for decades.

  4. Sweet, Karen!
Do you get to wear cute wings and wave a wand?
    I’m picturing it! Lol.
    Smiles, BRC

  5. Like others have already mentioned, I’ve also been called to help out family members – much in the same ways you shared with helping Shevawn and Erin. One of my daughters is disabled and often needs help with household tasks and bi-monthly trips to medical treatments. Now that I’m retired from my 8-5 job, I’m blessed to have the flexibility to help her. I might not have wings and a wand but it’s certainly a win-win for both of us! 😘

    • I know of your boundless help to Sarah, Glenda. You are one of the super heroines I’ve been privileged to call a friend for years and years. ❤️

  6. What a blessing you are to them! Unfortunately, my kids and grans live too far away to visit them very often. However, we will be seeing them for the first time in 15 months this weekend. Can hardly wait!

    • So happy for you, Sandy. It will be a great reunion. I will see some of my family this summer after many months apart. I’m so excited.

  7. WOW! What a wonderful Fairy Godmother you are! I think you are so lucky to be able to do that and I know the families are soooo happy you are with them. I have never been a Fairy Godmother, but I did keep my first granddaughter over night on lots of weekends. I also let her go with me to Family reunions and she and i both loved just being together. It is such a blessing to have grandchildren and be able to be with them Mine are all grown and two live here in Florida and the other three live FAR away but I received good news just this week. The three who live so far away have been making plans without my knowing it and are coming to Florida to see me at Thanksgiving! Tanya, my daughter has been working with them on details! It really will be nice! I will be 94 by then so I could use some prayers I will still be here~ smile! I feel I will! love you and thanks for sharing this great news with us. Margaret

    • Margaret, what a wonderful visit to anticipate. I pray all details will fall into place. It will surely be a memory of a lifetime. Of course you will still be here. We are all counting on you to keep leading the way. 🥰

  8. I wish my kids and grandkids didn’t live so far away. You’re a blessing to yours and they must be to you.

    • Thanks, Janet. Some of my grands are far away so I’m making the most of the time I have with the ones close by. I’m sad that yours are far away. I hope you can visit them soon.

  9. Every mother should have a fairy Godmother like you! I was never fortunate enough to live near any of my children as they were raising their families. Occasional visits were treasured times.
However, we all have a chance to be “helping hands” to those around us in other ways. I remember a poem I learned long ago which said in part
“Are you almost discouraged with life my friend?
    Do something for somebody, Quick!!”
Works for me. 🙂 Thanks Karen for always giving us a taste of who you are. We love you!!!

  10. Love love the topic. My grandchildren are all grown up and making a life of their own. But I manage to be a “Fairy God Mother” by way of keeping touch and encouraging them in their endeavors in life. Each one is a special individual.
My great granddaughter is too far away to be able to assist. I keep the communication lines open with all the family. Generally a daily greeting by way of text. We are all so far apart geographically that a quick daily text seems to work.
Thank Karen…I bet you are a super “Fairy Godmother”.

  11. Hi Joan. It’s always great to hear what is going on with you. How lovely that your family members stay in touch with one another on a daily basis. What a blessing for each of you.
