Confetti Thoughts
I sat down on the floor of my living room and had a good cry and chat with God–mostly about my growing obsession with past mistakes and regrets. Someone once said that it’s wise to look back and learn but not to stare or you’ll get stuck. SO true. I know that pattern.
While lingering in conversation with God, an idea came to me to make a list of all the experiences that were still plaguing my mind, going as far back as possible. So I opened a little notebook and started writing–one thing after another from my preschool years up to current times. I filled an entire page and kept on writing, one word on top of another and another and another. It looked like a page of first-grade scribble. Next I prayed a prayer of surrender, and finally wrote the word FORGIVEN by God across the length of the page.
Next I cut the pages into tiny bits, as small as confetti, burned them and drowned them and then tossed the ashes into the trash where they belonged.
That night I slept more peacefully than I had in weeks and I woke up refreshed and filled with gratitude.
Such a simple action and such a big relief.
“You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.”
Psalm 86:5
Thank you so much for writing about being forgiven for past mistakes and regrets because that’s exactly what God is doing in my life. Your writing is very life giving.
Wonderful to hear. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Thanks, Sandy. I find that as I age I am more aware than ever of God’s forgiving grace.
What a great process, Karen. Good idea! Glad it brought relief.
Thanks, Heidi. It’s a great ‘recovery process.
Bless you Karen, I guess you could call it gunny sacking. And then carrying that sack on your back. Good for you to dig right in and with the aid of the good Lord deal with it in a very methodical way. He wants us to be happy. I bet that good night’s sleep felt soooo good. I can certainly relate
Thanks, Joan. Yes, I am relieved.
Thank you, Karen. GOOD FOR YOU! What a wonderful idea! I had regrets also and I finally just told God I was giving them to HIM as I know since I have asked for forgiveness, that He HAS forgiven me so “case is closed” It is hard to not still be aware of the past mistakes but we need to hand them over to God as HE has forgiven ud if we have asked Him . All we have to do is to believe Him and thank HIM and then~~~let it go! and “trust Him”
Love you, Margaret
