A Different Kind of Halloween
Last week while visiting my son Jimmy and his wife Michiko in Southern California, we attended a celebration of Jack O’Lanterns called “Nights of the Jack,” a display of carved images (on thousands of pumpkins), including lights and messages created by Master Carver Billy Bywater and his team.
It was a one-of-a-kind experience on a clear night with a full moon that I’ll never forget. Here are a few of the dazzling displays we enjoyed as we walked the half-mile trail around the vast grounds of King Gillette Ranch, near my son’s home.
There was SO much more but this is a good example of the talent and dedication of these amazing artists that turned Halloween into a celebration of the art of carving.
Happy Trick or Treating Day!
What a fun and creative way to celebrate! I’m glad you could enjoy this with Jimmy and Michiko.
Thanks, Carol. It was truly memorable.
Wow!! so cool.
As an artist, you’d have loved this tour, Heidi. The carvings were beyond amazing.
Loved seeing these photos again. Thanks for sharing the fun time you had with Jimmy and Michiko. What a unique display! Since our own visit was way to short, glad I can at least send you an electronic hug!
Thanks, Glenda. Our visit was too short but every minute was wonderful. You and your family are so dear to me.
How beautiful. I can imagine that full moon adding to the magical feeling. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Pam. My son and his wife are moving to NV the end of Nov. so being together that evening and for a few days meant a lot to all of us.
Splendid! How special and unique! You,my dear, have a very interesting and lively life! “Keep on keeping on” as the Brits say!! Grasping, and engaging, and finding such joy in all that you do is SO encouraging to us all. Blessings and Love always ❤️😘☘️🤗🙏🏻🌟🕉💕
Thank you, Kathleen. As I type this I’m looking forward to our beach walk and lunch later this morning.
Awesome! I know you had a wonderful time. I think I still have a photo of your Charles with a pumpkin he carved! Sorry I cannot take time to look right now but will tomorrow!
Wisconsin is a great place to visit in October and see the huge fields of pumpkins !! Then to see all the carved pumpkins on people’s lawns! Enjoy the children coming by for candy! We will!
Love to you, Margaret
Thanks, Margaret. I remember the photo you’re referring to. Charles didn’t carve that pumpkin. He had found it online and ordered it for that year. Sadly it has seen better days by now but at least I have the photo.
What a fabulous display of talent. So nice you could have a visit with your son and his wife.
Thanks, Joan. We did have a great evening and a wonderful four-day visit with one another.
