What’s So Funny About Getting Old-er?
Let’s make a choice to enjoy aging even if we keep misplacing our glasses, or hearing aids or cell phones. Martin Luther, father of the Reformation movement said, “If I’m not allowed to laugh in heaven, then I don’t want to go there.” Reinhold Niebuhr claimed that humor is a prelude to faith and a laugh is the beginning of prayer.
I am enjoying a lot of laughter, smiles, and jokes where I live now. Walkers and wheelchairs and canes careen down the halls as we make our way around the building. In fact, I am surprised and impressed with how kind and cordial people are to each other. We’ve become a family.
“I never made a mistake in my life. I thought I did once but I was wrong.” Charles M. Schulz
Hi Karen. Been a while since I have
answered your blog. It is a privilege to grow old. Some of it not much fun
but so far I have surmounted them.
Your place where you live now sounds wonderful. Nice to hear that people are friendly have lots of jokes to smile about. Until next time…blessings & hugs.
Thanks, Joan. Your comment warms me.
Hi Mom! So glad you have your sense of humor! You inspire all of us!
Love,
Julie
Thanks, Julie. So good to read your encouragement.
Karen, if I can do this as gracefully as you — I’ll be a happy “old-er” lady! Thanks for sharing and your continued encouragement!
Thank you, Patti, for your wise and thoughtful words.
Any of us of a “certain age”, I won’t say what that is, understand and fully agree with you and those you quoted. Way to go Karen.
Love it when we can see the humor in life instead of the horror!
God bless you!
Yes, yes, Etta Mae.
Karen, you have always made me feel as though growing old was a sweet privilege and, rather than a walk in the park, a wonderful, colorful, adventure for “advanced” hikers.
As I’m aging with you, I see how true that is. Thanks for sharing the upsides to aging.
Smiles, BRC
You are welcome, Beth. We have shared our friendship for many years now.
