Barbie
It’s movie (Barbie) day for Julie, her friend Patrice, and me. It will be good to have an outing. I’m not sure what to think. It sounds a bit corny but the review in our local paper was positive, telling prospective viewers it’s not what they might expect (meaning better than) so I’ll just take it as it comes.
I saw the movie since I last wrote so I decided to share my opinion. It was so funny and true and wise. I highly recommend it. I have never laughed so hard in my life. The gender inequality we’re all familiar with is turned on its head. If you see the movie, let me know what you think of it.
Yesterday I went to a nearby park with my great granddaughter Lavender and Julie, her grandma. It was so much fun to watch the young kids jump and climb and run. Oh for their energy once again. But those days are gone. I’m just observing now. But there is a certain kind of joy in watching the little ones conquer the obstacles.
I’m finding a new facet of life as I age–a quiet serenity in observing versus participating.
Here’s a cool quote for today and everyday:
“Gratitude is not only the greatest of all virtues but the parent of all others.” Cicero
Hi Karen,
So wonderful to hear of your outings!
I saw Barbie too. Was quite entertaining- fast moving, visual and quite a depiction of the wounding patriarchal society impales on woman and men. Quite encouraging that we are able to see the impact on humanity.
Terrie
Glad you enjoyed it, Terrie. It’s fun for me to hear your response.
Hi Karen, I’ve heard many raves about the Barbie movie, but hearing yours got my attention most of all because I so value your opinion. Especially the part about laughing so hard! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think I’ll go see it!
I love that you are experiencing a quiet serenity and joy in this new phase of life. I pray that this season of living closer to your daughter and great granddaughter is filled with sweet, lovely days together.
Nancy
What a lovely comment, Nancy. How nice to see your name.
Karen, you have described my situation to a T, that you are experiencing a quiet serenity in observing versus participating. I love that, and experience it every day, painting, writing, playing the piano and listening to beautiful music. I’m loving this stage of my life and hope you are also. Letting go and letting God works wonders for peace of mind. May God bless you every day.
And may God bless you everyday, Marie. I’m thrilled to hear that you are doing so well.
I am so glad for you to be able to participate in these things and be with loved ones. Your attitude of gratitude is inspiring . God is good . You are still inspiring people with your words !! God bless you!!
