In the Nick of Time
Last week I made a trip to Costco to have my hearing aids cleaned and to set up my annual membership renewal. The young man I worked with gave me a certificate for a FREE case of bottled water as a thank you. How nice!
But when I got to the station to pick up the water, I realized the container was too heavy for me to lift out of the shopping cart and into my car. I whispered to God that I needed help. I had parked at the far end of the lot and from where I stood I didn’t see anyone close to my car.
I trusted God to provide. And he sure did. As I neared my car I noticed a young man, looking fit and strong so I approached him. “Would you mind helping an older woman?” I asked.
“Sure, what to do you need?” he replied.
I told him my situation and within a minute he hoisted the collection into my car and I was on my way!
What a great reminder that my God is always with me and will meet all my needs, as small or as great as they are. My job is to give up fear and worry and receive the help that is always right there–even in the nick of time.
Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.
Psalm 54:4

I once fell when I was out walking at Roaring Camp Railroad. I thought there was no one in sight but a kind gentleman came and helped me. Fortunately, I was not hurt but with old knees, it is hard to get up.
I know it is always a blessing when help arrives at just the right time. Happy to hear about your experience. Being older does have its benefits. 🙂
He DOES meet our needs- in AMAZING ways!
Two weeks ago I decided that I’d like to donate four vcr’s to the salvation army. They were my ex husband’s, who I divorced in 1998. They were too heavy for me so I timidly asked my neighbor and his friend if they would help me. They cheerfully came to save the day. Last week they helped me lift four heavy bins from the top shelf and placed them on the ground. Now I can easily go through my three daughter’s trophies, schoolwork, and writing so I can give all of their stuff back to them. I am very thankful for their kindness and willingness to help in time of need. I’m also thankful that I asked for help because I would not have been able to lift those heavy bins.
So good, Karen. And, another thing you did was “ask for help”–not my strong suit. Good for you! love, Heidi
I cannot think of a specific time but I do know that when I ask God to help me to walk without falling when I get up each morning He does not let me fall. I always thank Him. I do know that I have asked for help many times and the “helper” often is thankful you asked them yet this ‘brain of mine’smile, will not send me a specific situation. I will probably think of one as soon as I send this, Smile! Love you, Margaret
Hi a very timely subject. My downfall is to ask for help. First to ask the Lord to provide the help and be grateful. Many times lifting the water at Costco in the car…someone wanders by to help. Asking for someone to reach something at the grocery store. Everyone always most happy to help.
There have been so many answered prayers. Parking spots near the door when I needed to just pop in to a store for something. Traffic lights when I am late for church, I just ask God for his mercy and usually He come through. He is awesome.
