The Anchor of My Soul
I recently attended a meeting of friends on Zoom. The topic of our conversation was ‘the anchor of my soul.’ I really enjoyed listening to everyone share what that meant to them:
forgiveness
gratitude
humility
trust in God
peace
I resonated with all, but the one that spoke to me the loudest was gratitude. Now that I’m in the late years I find that more than anything I’m thankful–for my life, my health, my family, good friends, the God of my understanding, and the joy of every breath I take. I did not hear one word that focused on the acquisition of things, or rewards, or titles. It seemed everyone chose a spiritual gift.
…”hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.” Hebrews 6:19 (The Living Bible)
What anchors your soul? What keeps you going each day?
this is beautiful, mom. you’re such a constant example of gratitude. i love you!! ♥️♥️
Thank you, Erin. 🥰
My answer came to me in the words of a song I learned in my teen years:
Safe am I, safe am l.
In the hollow of His hands.
Sheltered o’er, sheltered or .
In his love forever more.
No ill can harm me,
No foe alarm me.
For he keeps both day and night
Safe am I in the hollow of His Hands.
Etta Mae, what a beautiful hymn. Thanks for sharing.
I agree with Erin- you are such a great example of someone who is so grateful for life and all the seasons that come with it!
My own anchor is also one of gratitude. And this simple statement says it all:
“Gratitude turns what God gives us- into enough.”
I love this, Glenda. God always provides enough.
I have to say that HOPE is the anchor of my soul… but peace keeps me anchored too. I heard a saying the other day that I have on my desk now… “Each morning, peace arrives at your door in the form of your choices.” Every time I’m tempted to lose my peace (or hope), I remember it’s a choice I make, so make the right one!
Yes, Kristi, it is always our choice. Thank you for sharing.
A long time ago I had the thought that if I started to complain about something I would say out loud: “Okay, Margaret, change your attitude, express more gratitude”. worked every time.
‘another good thought is in the form of a song: ” Keep your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face and the things on earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His wonder and grace”. thanks with love, Margaret
I love the words of this hymn. Good daily reminder.
Forgive me for adding another ‘thought’ to yesterday’s but I was trying to remember this as I was writing yesterday. it happened last week when I started having what I call the “mully grubs’ and putting myself down, when I started thinking of some past things that had happened that I should erase from my memory. I suddenly looked at a cross w have on a wall (small and colorful) and I said out loud: “Okay, God, Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me”. God knew I meant it and He did! I am grateful. Margaret
A lovely addition to your first comment.
The anchor of my soul my relationship with Jesus. As long as I keep my eyes on him I feel safe. Life hands us many challenges but Jesus is always there. Each day is a gift and has many blessings in it. Hope in Christ priceless.
Thank you, Joan. A beautiful and inspiring comment.
