Just For Today
Today when I woke up I decided to focus on happy, joyful activities to brighten my day. So here’s my plan:
- Spend time in nature.
- Take a brisk walk in my community.
- Contact a friend.
- Listen to the best of Mozart on Spotify.
- Read a couple chapters in a juicy mystery I’ve started.
- Prepare a favorite meal–baked salmon and a baked potato with lots of butter.
- Walk around my house and pause to enjoy each painting, which I too often overlook.
- Meditate for at least fifteen minutes, thanking God for my life.
What activities brighten your day?
Whew! I feel better already.
Away, Sad Voices
by Sir Charles George Douglas Roberts
Away, sad voices, telling
Of old, forgotten pain!
My heart, at grief rebelling,
To joy returns again.
My life, at tears protesting,
To long delight returns,
Where, close of all my questing,
Her dear eyes love discerns.https://discoverpoetry.com/poems/poems-about-joy/
I think I’ll try your list tomorrow Karen! Thanks.
Today turned into a downer.

Thanks, Beth. It seems you and I are giving each other great ideas through our blogs.
Working on that take-away value. ☺️👍
(Learned that from a great mentor in one of my writing courses.) Wink!
🌸Smiles, BRC
I am learning to meditate. Once I have that I will follow your list for a better day.
So nice to hear from you, Lupe. Blessings.
Karen, sounds like a winner to me! Go for it!!I thought of these words but can’t remember who said then: “Don’t worry, be happy” Even tho I don’t remember who said them it is good advice. Then I thought of these words which is a Hymn : “Lord for tomorrow and it’s needs, I do not pray” it goes on to say many things like ‘let me be kind, faithful, etc. just for today.
I love these old songs~smile! Being a “Preacher’s kid and wife” I know a lot of them and they sure make me stop and think!! I hope I can enjoy “today” as I never know when it will be my last ‘day’. Continue to spread good thoughts, Karen. We are listening. Love you. Margaret
Thanks for sharing these encouraging quotes, Margaret.
Karen what a beautiful list you made of everything that brings you joy. When I read your list it almost felt like I was experiencing each one. I feel so much joy when I take photos of gorgeous sunrises and sunsets from my back and front yard. It’s so exciting to see God’s beautiful creations. It’s like Jesus is painting the sky with pink, purple, mauve, and light blue. In the past two weeks I’ve taken at least forty photos. It makes me happy when I give away my embossed cards to doctors, nurses, friends and people I meet. I like when they light up when they get the cards. I am so happy when I call friends and play a piano composition on the piano for them. Also, taking quiet time with God and doing my journal writing always nourishes my soul.
I wrote a poem many years ago. It came to mind as I read this today.
Happiness
Happiness is not a thing to hold.
It does not come all wrapped up and tied.
Nor can you buy it with pure gold.
Though many fools have tried.
It never comes to those who seek
To find it in man’s praise.
With adulation at its peek
How quick you lose it will amaze.
Happiness is what you give
And in return, it’s multiplied.
Distribute joy as life you live,
Happiness is then supplied.
I love your thoughts always!!!
