The Power of the Pause
The other day I overheard a part of a conversation between two people and I was certain in the moment I had some information that would help them. I was sure of it. Then suddenly I saw this little guy pop into my mind.
Yes, of course. Shhhhh! Who was I to intrude on their time together, to assume I knew what they needed? I had never met them, hadn’t even seen them before, and yet…
This week I am focusing on what I call, The Power of the Pause.
Instead of jumping into someone else’s business I really needed to turn within and check on my own, and as my grandfather used to say with a big Irish smile when I was a nosy little girl, “Mind your own business.”
YES.
I have enough to manage from morning till night just looking after myself. Does that mean I never lend a hand or offer a word? Of course not. But it does mean I don’t do for others what they can and need to do for themselves. And how do I know the difference between helping and hindering?
By checking with the God of my understanding and remembering to PAUSE and ask for guidance before I speak or act.
PAUSE, PRAY, and only then PROCEED.
Amen, Karen. MYOB. Clean your own side of the street! Good reminder. I always know what “they should do” ha ha. NOT.
Thanks, Heidi. Isn’t it amazing how much advice we have for others when we’re in need of our own advice!
Good words for all of us to live by!
I agree. Thanks, Glenda.
Thank you for such a positive reminder. Ône I need to hear a lot.
You are very welcome. Thanks for reading my blog.
Thank you for those timely words.
My middle daughter is now living with us until her new home is built. I’m too ready to give advice. MYOB is good advice to pay attention to.
Thanks, Joan. Your daughter must be very grateful for your wisdom in MYOB!!
The a is from Joan Lucas. My phone is acting up.
Thanks for letting me know.
Good and wise thinking, Karen. For some unknown reason this reminded me of one of my favorite quotes: “Wisdom comes from Listening” I have learned a lot by just listening. Sometimes what I hear tells me to not ever “think or speak” of what I hear. Thanks! Love you, Margaret
Thanks, Margaret. I love that quote. I will remember it.
I need to remember that.
Hi Janet. I’m going to remember this too.
