Fun in the Sun
Here I am with my son, Jim, who lives in Henderson, NV (in the Las Vegas Valley) for a few days during his birthday week. While there, he and I visited the Valley of Fire National Landmark and did a bit of walking and photography. Such an incredibly beautiful place. The last time I was there was about twenty years ago for a camping trip over Thanksgiving weekend. It is as beautiful today as it was then and eons ago when created.
I know a lot of people come to Vegas to put a few dollars (or more) on the line or coins in a machine, but when I looked all around us at the natural setting I was brought to tears and hoped everyone on a Vegas getaway would include this spectacular side trip when it’s just a short drive out of the city.
On another day we hiked part of a trail in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area.
Now that the pandemic is beginning to phase out, many of us are returning to somewhat of a normal routine, including visiting family members we haven’t seen in a year or more. It is so wonderful to hug our loved ones and to thank God for the gift of these opportunities that we pray we will never take for granted again.
I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. (Psalm 9:1)
I love the desert in the spring !! It has a magic all it’s own. Nothing like the flowers and birds there . I am happy you got to get away ! God bless you !
Thanks, Etta Mae. It was very special to enjoy the desert, especially with my son.
Beautiful Karen—the view and the togetherness!
🌸Smiles, B
Thanks, Beth. It was a special time–after two years apart.
Looks like a beautiful hike with two people you love. We just had lunch with one son and his family on Saturday and what a delight to be together again! I like the picture of Jimmy holding your hand – love and stability!
Blessings!
Thanks, Carol. I’m at that age where a little hand-holding means a lot–for stability as well as comfort and love.
Love your latest “travelogue.” The desert is lovely this time of year! Hugs!
Thanks, Glenda. We had a really good time together. So happy to enjoy so much beauty with one another.
My Husband, Herb and I did a lot of traveling out west and visited the same places you visited and we loved it. God’s creations are so beautiful and so VERY amazing. We traveled a lot all over the USA and our favorite places were in the West! When I look at our photo’s now it is hard for me to believe I have actually “been there” ~smile! Thanks, Karen, for bringing back wonderful memories. You and your son and wife look wonderful and I am so thankful you have them and YES we are so glad we have had the vaccines and can hug our families again! Love you. Margaret
Margaret, it’s lovely to hear that you and Herb enjoyed some of these beautiful wild places. Charles and I did, as well, and I’ve never regretted a moment of our explorations.I always think of them as time with God, who created them for us to enjoy.
I too was in Henderson for couple of days last month. My daughter/I went to see her daughter/my granddaughter. We went to see the rock museum= awesome. I love reading your leisure with your kids, etc. Take care & may God Bless.
How fun it is to hear you were in Henderson too, Andrea. Such a beautiful area.
The photos and message are equally beautiful Mom. <3
Julie
Thanks, honey. So nice of you to take time to read it.
Great message and pics! It was a special visit I will always treasure. I love you mom.
Thanks, Jim. It was one of the best weeks of my life–and that’s saying something. I love you so much, too.
Karen,
I always love your sentiments in your blogs and topping them off with Scripture. I like reading your blogs. Beautiful pics. I agree with you in that some people’s priorities are askew. I had a similar experience a few years back, when God painted His sky with a gorgeous tapestry of colors. I took a couple pictures of it and wondered at His beauty. Thank you Jesus. While I was gazing and snapping pictures, a crowd of people walked into Fred Meyers yacking joking, and discussing who knows what (I didn’t care because God and I were having a moment), while He painted the entire sky with one of the most beautiful sunsets, I have ever seen. (Underline “ever.”) It literally covered the entire sky with bright oranges, yellows, and whites. So yes, I agree. Your son has a great name. 🙂
Fun to see that you and my son share the same name. The book of James in the Bible is also one of my favorites. I enjoyed reading your experience with God’s tapestry. God is truly the most exquisite of artists.
My husband and I have travelled from Canada to hike and birdwatch that area of Nevada- it’s really beautiful! They have a wonderful Bird Preserve in Henderson too which is full of beautiful birds and trees!
Yes, people on the strip should leave the machines and enjoy the beautiful nature.
Wonderful to hear that you and your husband have enjoyed that part of Nevada. I really appreciated the trees and of course the birds too.
Karen, wonderful to have you share your time with loved ones and view your pictures of Gods creation. I have been brought to tears many times viewing
Gods creation. It is priceless. Thank you
Yes, there is no better artistry than God’s creation. I’m happy you have enjoyed it too.
