What Am I Looking For?
Good question! I’m learning as I grow older that what I see depends on what I’m looking for.
Am I looking for something to complain about? If so, then even a sunny day will appear cloudy to me.
Am I judging another person for behavior I don’t approve of? If so, then I surely will notice only what I don’t like.
Am I upset over a rude customer in line at the market? If so, then I’ll withhold my usual smile.
I want this new year to be one of looking for the good and skipping over what I might consider the bad. I want to be a light in dark places, a kind word in difficult conversations, a helping hand when someone falls.
But I can’t make all this happen on my own. I’ll need the inspiration of the God I love. So I’m going to start each day with this paraphrase of advice from Father Richard Rohr.
Dear God, show me how to accept others for who they are, myself for who I am,
and reality for what it is.
Thank you Karen. Much appreciated.
I have just written Father Richard Rohr’s words on a card that I too can start each fresh day with these fine words and inspiration. Much needed.🙏🏻❤️
Thanks, Kathleen. I love Richard’s wisdom.
What an awesome prayer to start each day! Thank you my friend!
Love to you. Margaret
Love to you, too, Margaret.
Thank you Karen. Wise words. It’s sometimes easy to swing from “it’s a sunny day” to “but the clouds are forming in the east.” May we look for the best in those we meet, the joy in every day, the faithfulness of our loving God.
Beautiful, Carol. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Lovely, inspiring words!
Thank you. 🙂

Joining in your prayer today Karen…
counting my blessings & praying for burdens.

Thanks, Beth, for joining in.
Isn’t there a song about accentuating the positive. Or behind every cloud there is a silver lining. Such is your timely topic. I love it. A new beginning for 2021. What a nice way to start the day…the prayer that you shared.
Good to hear from you, Joan. Yes, I remember that old song about accentuating the positive and the quote behind every cloud is a silver lining. Good advice always.
