On a Sunny Day
A few weeks ago I attended a lecture at the Monterey Museum of Art. It was a gorgeous Saturday morning and when the event ended I couldn’t bear to simply go home. It was too wonderful a day to waste indoors. So I ventured across the road to a park and pond I love. I walked the path round and around and around again, snapping photos every lap.
Finally, I decided to stop and look and listen for a few moments as the wildlife splashed and played in the water, with not a care in the world. I realized then that I didn’t have a care in the world either–at least at that moment. All was well right then and there and after all that was the only moment that mattered since I couldn’t predict the future and the past was already gone.
Ah, if only I could live so serenely every day! I want to but I don’t always succeed. But what mattered then was the simple joy of a lovely outing all alone in a beautiful place on a gorgeous sunny day.
Job 12:7-10 NIV
“But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you;
or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
or let the fish in the sea inform you.
Which of all these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?
In his hand is the life of every creature
and the breath of all mankind.”
I just received your new book and looking forward to reading it.
Thanks, Judi. I appreciate your support.
Thank you, Karen, for adding so much beauty with these beautiful photos. I have a good friend who comes to visit almost every Monday, we share some food and LOTS of conversations and this is beautiful too. Every day is beautiful if we think of all the blessings that God gives to us. HIS gifts are new every morning and I pray I will be aware of them and give Thanks!
You are beautiful, Karen. Love and blessings to you. Margaret
Thanks, Margaret. I love hearing that you and your long-time friend have such meaningful visits on a regular basis.
Beautiful, Karen. I pray for more moments like these that you had.
Thanks, Heidi. Such moments are often rare but when we have them they make such a difference.
What a beautiful expression of a lovely day. I love Monterey, it is where I was born. February 12 , 1930! I so agree with you about living “today”. I love the scripture you quoted. Thanks for letting us share a special day in your life.
Thanks, Etta Mae. I didn’t know you were born in beautiful Monterey. How special.
Hi Karen, thank you for sharing your special day and the meaningful scripture. How I cherish those “not a care in the world times.” Enjoying God’s handy work is often not a care in the world time.
A little p.s. I am now engaged to a very special, kind man. I could go on and on. I was officially engaged the 6th of December.
Joan, what amazing and happy news. I am thrilled for you to have found another wonderful mate. May your time together overflow with love and kindness and blessings of every flavor.
Thanks for sharing your memorable moment and beautiful pictures Karen. You always inspire me to recognize and enjoy while walking my own path.
These unexpected beautiful moments have become some of my favorite gifts from God. May he bless you with many more.
🌺Smiles, BRC
Thanks, Beth. May you have a beautiful day.
Lovely, Karen. The older I get the more I enjoy nature and quiet times. My nephew was visiting and we sat on my lanai and watched flocks of shorebirds flying above the waterway on their evening trip back to their nest just south of my condo. Blue herons, ibis and egrets made a lovely sight. I also see Louisiana herons, roseate spoonbills and pink flamingos frequently – even wood storks. I thank God for giving me a bit of Heaven on earth.
Bless you, Karen.
Wow, Marie. It does sound like a bit of heaven on earth. What a treat to be surrounded with so much of God’s beautiful creatures. Thanks for sharing.
