A Walk in the Wild
A few weeks ago I took a walk with my friend Kathleen through the Arboretum on the campus of the University of Santa Cruz. It was a lovely quiet hour surrounded by plants of all kinds and the gentle swish of hummingbirds as they flitted from flower to flower.
As I stopped to rest and ponder my surroundings I thought about how much I enjoy such respites in nature. It made me think of a reference in the Bible to the Balm of Gilead.
A peaceful calm came over me.
“Balm of Gilead was a rare perfume used medicinally, that was mentioned in the Bible, and named for the region of Gilead, where it was produced. The expression stems from William Tyndale‘s language in the King James Bible of 1611, and has come to signify a universal cure in figurative speech.” (Wikipedia)
Sometimes all we need is a bit of time, a splash of silence, a flower or plant or bird to bring us back to what really matters–and then we can go on with the rest of our day.
May you take a moment today to give yourself such a gift.
Beautiful and peaceful! Thanks for sharing your marvelous experience!
Thanks, Glenda. I know you have plenty of such beautiful respites in San Diego too.
There’s true blessings in respites.
Wishing you and your family a blessed holiday season!
Thank you, Elaine, and to you a blessed Christmas too.
Ilove Hummingbirds and my brother had feeders for them off the front porch and outside the dinning room windows. Amazing how they would actually fight each other to get to the feeder. I always enjoyed watching them and in the spring when I would be visiting with them I would sit at the open back door just watching a Cardinal sit on the grass for a long time with his head up in the air and all at once he would drop his head and pull out a worm from the ground! Amazing!>Thank you for the reminder. We are so fortuanate we have eyes and can see these beautiful birds and all other creatures that God has given to us.> It’s been a long time since I have been for a walk in the woods but I remember how wonderful it was to walk among the huge trees in the Redwood Forest in Ca.! I am sure you have enjoyed them many times.< Thanks for bringing back great memories!
Love to you, Margaret

So beautiful, Karen. You are an inspiration!
Thank you, Heidi. It seems we inspire each other!! 😊
Karen I appreciate your call to nature. I have been blindly walking past it lately and have really missed the solace of it.
Thank you! I will take a minute today to purposely observe…
