A New Heart for a New Year
Psalm 51:10 (NIV)
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
A fitting verse for the new year. And for a more playful version of the same verse, here it is from The Message (MSG)
Soak me in your laundry and I’ll come out clean,
scrub me and I’ll have a snow-white life.
Tune me in to foot-tapping songs,
set these once-broken bones to dancing.
Don’t look too close for blemishes,
give me a clean bill of health.
God, make a fresh start in me,
shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.
Don’t throw me out with the trash,
or fail to breathe holiness in me.
Bring me back from gray exile,
put a fresh wind in my sails!
Give me a job teaching rebels your ways
so the lost can find their way home.
Commute my death sentence, God, my salvation God,
and I’ll sing anthems to your life-giving ways.
Unbutton my lips, dear God;
I’ll let loose with your praise.
No more goals for me or promises or New Year’s resolutions–just a prayer for a clean heart and a renewed spirit within me. How about you?
I couldn’t agree more, Karen. I hope you have a wonderful, healthy and happy New Year. (I’m still hanging in; writing and painting at age 91. God is good.
How wonderful Marie that you are still writing and painting at age 91. Bravo for you.
Marie, I want to be like you when I grow up. You continue to inspire me.
Hi Karen,
I love no more goals or promises or New Year’s resolutions-just prayer for a clean heart and a renewed spirit with me.That’s so powerful. I stopped making new years resolutions a long time ago. Instead I do my best to ask God what He wants me to do, think, act or feel. Thank you again for your heart felt writing. Happy New Year Karen.
Love,
Sandy
Happy New Year to you too, Sandy. Here’s to more of your writing throughout 2020.
Beautiful poetry and verse Karen. Thank you.
May 2020 bring us all clearer vision of our Spiritual goals and an ever growing closeness to our Divine self and that of others. Let us all keep on giving continual thanks for our many, many blessings. Keep on dancing, painting, singing, walking and praising His Holy name. Cheers!
Thanks for your comment, Kathleen. I just returned from a week at Esalen and am renewed and refreshed for the new year. I know you will be blessed mightily in 2020 as you continue to spread your joy and love to all who know you and are yet to meet you.
