Technology Woes!
Recently I stayed at a fancy hotel in San Jose, California for a conference. While visiting one of the public restrooms I was suddenly aware of how annoyed I get with some of the modern ‘conveniences’–even in upscale buildings.
auto toilet flushers that don’t accept my ‘wave.’
auto paper towel dispensers when they overperform or underperform
auto soap and water dispensing faucets when they don’t respond to my touch–even though they are designed to be touchless!
They’re great when they work–but when they don’t, I run out of patience–fast.
From now on I plan to carry a little package of ‘baby wipes’ in my purse and a small bottle of hand purifier so I can be ready for all emergencies!
That’s my complaint for the week.
Now back to being grateful that we live in the age of advancing technology when inventions do work–most of the time!
And Happy Labor Day to all the ‘laborers’ who work and invent things on our behalf.
“All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.” (Proverbs 14:23)
Oh man, Karen, right there with you…the things meant for convenience just annoy. I like my old fashioned toilets and water that flows by turning the cold and hot levers. I’m with you on the baby wipes. Gonna go write that on my grocery list!
Thanks, Heidi. I’m glad I have company when it comes to ‘modern’ conveniences! 😊
I feel your frustration with some of these “handless” machines. When they work, they are great. When they don’t, it’s super frustrating!!! Argh!!!
Hi Glenda. Thanks for your comment. It seems we have a consensus of frustration and gratitude! 😊
I agree with you 100%. Modern technology is great when it works but it does not always work. One thing I always liked to do (when I was flying back and forth to Kentucky-smile)is to take the personal things as you mentioned with me so if the things in the restrooms don’t work I have my own. One thing I feel we should always do, however, if there is a cleaning lady in the room always thank them for cleaning up after all the people ! I hope they realize how important their job is. What would we do without them?
Don’t forget the wet wipes!! and don’t forget to use one on the door handle as you leave the room!
Happy traveling. Love you, Margaret
Thanks, Margaret. All good suggestions and I will take you up on them during my vacation next week.
Little annoyances. Very good solution! Technology can be both marvelous and maddening! Thanks for the good ideas! You are SO right about the hard work of the people who clean up. I grew up with a lady who cleaned the restrooms. She always said that the women’s were the worst. We should be thoughtful to leave things tidy. You really don’t have to “go” all over the seat, you can use tissue and raise the seat and put it back down when you leave if you don’t have any seat covers or just choose not to utilize them. A little prevention prevents a great deal of cleaning! Love your stories! Melody
Melody, how nice to hear from you. Thank you for your thoughtful comment.
Karen, personally, I don’t care for the hand blowers-they don’t dry my hands!
Thanks for chiming into our conversation about various technology that is great when it works and not so great when it doesn’t. I agree with you about hand blow dryers. It takes so long and doesn’t always dry our hands.
