Summer Reading — 16 Comments

  1. Thanks Karen, I just bought the Tiger Woods book and the Falling Upward.

I recommend “Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus” by Nabeel Qureshi—about a devout Muslim becoming Christian.

  2. Hi Karen. I am reading a Chicken Soup for the Soul series I won at a recent writer’s conference. Have a great summer!

  3. I highly recommend Mead Mountain by B.K. Dell.An excellent read from a new author. It’s a Christian novel about a pastor and his prediction that in two weeks Mead Mountain will move. Very outside the box book that shows how being a Christian can be different and reach people often forgotten. I loved it.

  4. One of my favorite books is “Nearing Home” by Billy Graham. I bought a copy for a retired minister and his wife and they loved it and he loaned it to his elderly mother and she loved it too! I loaned my copy to someone and they did not return it-NO Problem-but I am buying another copy as I definitely want to read it again. Another favorite is “Saved By Grace” by Elizabeth Sherriel.

I love mystery series (not the gory murder ones but other kinds of mysteries-don’t mind a few of the ‘murders’-ha) I ordered a series of books “Annie’s Attic” from a company called “Annie’s” without asking how many books were in the series-there were 30!!! But they were awesome and I could not put them down!

I guess one of my all time favorite’s is one I read back in the 1950’s written by Taylor Caldwell ( a lady) ” Dear and Glorious Physician”! It is the story of St. Luke. An awesome book.

I love my books and I pass them along to others as my bookcases are “running over”!!

    Blessings to you always, Margaret

  5. Thanks for all the great suggestions, Margaret. I remember “Dear and Glorious Physician” from years ago. Loved it. Also am interested in the mystery series you mentioned. I’m into a series now but will consider “Annie’s Attic” when I finish what I have.

    • Thanks, Michele. How nice to hear from you. I hope all is well with you. Are you still writing mysteries? I’ve enjoyed the ones you’ve shared with me.

  6. I appreciate these recommendations, Karen, especially the one about the woman who grew up Mormon, and the Irish Murder Mysteries. I just finished THE HIDEAWAY, by Lauren K. Denton. Set in the South, I loved the mental images that came to mind from our trips to New Orleans and other parts of the South. Great summer read!

    • Thanks for sharing your current book, Carol. With all these titles to enjoy we’ll all be busy reading all summer long.

  7. Hi Karen, Thank you for your book recommendations- I’m really enjoying the book about Tiger Woods. Yes, it is very well written, complex and interesting book’ A book I really enjoyed is Fire Road by Kim Phuc. This is the story of Kim Phuc who was on the cover of Life magazine as a Napalm victim during the Vietnam War. This is her own autobiography not only about the Vietman War but about how Christ drew her to himself and faithfully directed her on a long life journey to a place where she now helps trauma survivors. Whenever trouble comes my way, I think of Kim’s journey and the faithfulness of God! I have Falling Upward on my Kindle- so it’s next in line! I enjoyed reading what other people are reading too- one of my favourite topics!

    • Hi Angela. Thanks for sharing “Fire Road” by Kim Phuc. I appreciate your enjoying mine and other people’s reading suggestions and letting us know what you like.

  8. Hi Karen, If not for the sadness, I loved reading the ‘Shack’ I’ve read it two times. I also like reading (literally) anything by Frank Peretti. Great writer: This present Darkness, Piercing the darkness, The Oath, The Prophet, Monster, House, the list goes on. I’ve read most all of them.

    • Thanks, Jim. I read The Shack, as well, and saw the excellent adaptation as a movie. I’ve read some of Frank Peretti’s books too. I appreciate your adding your favorites to our growing list.
